Haiti - Tokyo 2021 eliminatory : Severe defeat of the Grenadiers against Honduras [3-0]

Our Grenadiers missed their first match in the knockout phase of the Tokyo 2021 Olympic Games.

Friday on the lawn of the Jalisco stadium in Guadalajara (Mexico) the Grenadiers faced Honduras outnumbered (10 against 11) due to delay in the results of Covid tests. In a note, CONCAFAF asked members of the Haitian delegation who had not yet received the results of the latest Covid tests carried out in Guadalajara not to go to the stadium. Under the refusal of Coach Webens Prinsimé, the grenadiers concerned were sent to a local laboratory which could provide the results in 30 minutes.

As a result of this delay, goalkeeper Alan Jérôme (Don Bosco FC, Haiti) had to be replaced at the last minute by defender Odilon Jérôme (Don Bosco FC, Haiti) while awaiting the results of Alan's Covid test (as well as for other Grenadiers) which reduced the number of Haitian players on the field to 10.

In the first half Darixon Vuelto opened the scoring from the penalty spot for Honduras in the 14’[1-0].

In the 18' Edwin Rodriguez sank the score [2-0] followed in the 38’ by a brace from Darixon Vuelto [3-0]. At the end of the first period the score was unchanged [3-0] in favor of Honduras.

Goalkeeper Alan Jérôme finally made his way onto the pitch, restoring numerical equality for the Grenadiers, but too late the score remained unchanged at the end of the regulatory limit

Group B classification :

1- Honduras 3 pts (+3)

2- Canada 3 pts (+2)

3- Salvador 0 pt (-2)

4- Haiti 0 pt (-3)

Monday March 22, our Grenadiers (deprived of Djimy-Bend Alexis expelled], will face Canada, winner of El Salvador [2-0]
